Our Experiment

Tamariki in the Kōwhai room love experimenting and asking "What will happen?". Our most recent experiment involved containers of baking soda and containers of vinegar.

Tamariki used squeezed vinegar into the eye droppers and then squeezed it out on top of the baking soda.

As the vinegar splattered on top of the baking soda they noticed it starting to bubble. Our curious tamariki discovered that the more vinegar they dropped onto the baking soda, the fizzier and frotheir the baking soda became!

To speed up the process, some of the tamariki began tipping larger amounts of vinegar from a cup onto the baking soda. They were thrilled to see the froth rising up and rapidly growing. It grew over the edge of the container and started spilling over onto the table!

We think it's important to allow children to experiment and discover what will happen on

their own and lead their own learning. What an amazing discovery!
