Growing Seeds!

With spring here we have been planting some vegetable and flower plants in the Mānuka room. The tamariki have been busy planting wildflower, lettuce, capsicum and carrot seeds into yoghurt pottles. We have been amazed to see how the lettuce seeds grew so quickly into tiny plants! The tamariki learnt about putting in potting mix, then sprinkling the seeds over, and then covering them up with a bit more potting mix before they were watered. The tamariki have been watching them each day to see if they are growing! This has developed our tamariki’s knowledge of how plants grow, and what they need to be able to grow. They are also learning how to take care of their environment and learning about healthy eating

as we grow vegetable plants, which we will be able to eat once fully grown!
