Medication

It is the policy of The Cat’s Pyjamas Preschool & Nursery to administer medication in a safe and appropriate manner where authorised by parents. The Centre will not administer prescription medication which does not have a chemist prescription label on it, clearly stating the child’s name, dosage, and times of administration.

At no time will we administer more than the recommended dosage of any medication, unless stipulated by a medical practitioner and it is labelled as such. We will not administer anything that is not recommended for the age of the child.

If a child requires medication while at the centre, parents must complete the Medication Register on a daily basis, with the following details: Child’s name, medication name, dosage required, and time of administration. This must be filled out and signed by parents. A staff member will counter sign the Medication Register. Staff are responsible for checking all medication information with another staff member before administration. Both staff members are to sign the medication register, stating the time of the dosage.

The Centre’s staff cannot administer any medication unless parents have provided it. The exception to this is Panadol in the event that the child has an extreme temperature and the parent has faxed signed permission to authorise this.

For ongoing medication for conditions such as Asthma and the like, parents are required to supply a written statement from their family doctor stating the signs and symptoms of an onset of the condition and the medication required.
