Primary Care

The Cat's Pyjamas Preschool & Nursery operates a primary care giving system which means that each teacher has their own 'special teacher' who has the responsibility for a group of children. Primary care giving is an important aspect in working co-operatively with families and enables the child to form a secure bond with one teacher. Your child's special teacher is responsible for managing you and your child through pre-visits, the settling-in process, the ongoing education and care of your child and their profile book.

Assessment & Feedback

Sharing of your child’s progress both formally and informally, is an extremely valuable and important aspect of your child's ongoing early childhood care and education with us.

Each child has an individual Profile Book in which your child’s progress and development will be maintained and regularly updated. It will include observations of your child, art work, photos and learning stories of significant happenings, parent interview information and more! All are linked to the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework, Te Whaariki.

We encourage parents to add their voice to their child’s Profile Book through their own stories, quotes, photos and experiences reflecting the learning and development that has occurred during their time at the centre.

Profile Books are located in the entrance areas to the centre and are available to the children and parents at all times. Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of others, we ask that parents only look at the profile that belongs to their child.
